  I'll believe it when I see it!!! You may have heard this saying before, but is it really true??? Can you always believe what your eyes tell you when you see something???
According to The Webster's Dictionary the definition of illusion is: a misleading perception of reality; an overly optimistic idea or belief; misconception; the act of deceiving. Okay....well that's one way to put it, but there is more than one definition for an illusion.
People have been fascinated by illusions throughout the years, whether they be optical or sleight-of-hand. Illusions hold a very special place for almost everyone. If you have ever gone to a science center which has a display of optical illusions, you might have watched people spending large amounts of time staring at and attempting to understand why they were percieving the illusions that they were.
Some of the biggest illusions are right in front of us, and yet, we ignore the illusion because we do not recognize it. For example, there is one special illusion that has held the interest of many, and that is the illusion of the apparent increased size of the moon when seen near the horizon. When the full moon is rising or setting, it appears larger than it does when viewed much higher in the sky. By sighting through a cardboard tube, you can measure the angular size of the moon under both circumstances and find that the two results are identically the same. That the moons apparent diameter changes as a function of its surounding.
